I do not have a traditional arts and software engineering background, but have self-taught myself to be a data visualization engineer and web developer for the past 3 years. I have been spending almost a year dabbling in generative art and NFTs. I enjoy using technology to create generative art, which is therapy and a form of expression for me. I relish the control of the creative process, logic, math and 'painting' involved to create a system that surprises me with its outputs.
Practice:
I do treasure simplicity in the use of space, basic shapes and color composition in my artworks. Perhaps this could be a result of my background in data visualization, where charts/visuals do not need to be excessively embellished to bring forward the aesthetics and message to audiences. I have a particular fondness for network visualizations and am currently working on a personal project to experiment with and create variations of generative networks (force-directed graph layouts). I tend to stick to improving/playing with an algorithm for long periods of time, rather than create multiple generative projects in a short time. I prefer to create with Javascript and libraries such as d3.js or p5.js. While I have been creating artworks independently, I hope to collaborate with other Asian artists one day!
