Wyn-Lyn Tan

Singapore
Wyn-Lyn Tan is a fine arts painter and has been working in the traditional art space for over 15 years. In her artistic practice, she is continuously exploring the potentiality of painting, with the belief that it need not be limited by medium or form. In pushing the boundaries of painting, her works have included videos, installations, sculptural objects, and most recently, generative art videos and NFTs. She has exhibited widely, including in Singapore, New York, Norway and Art Basel Hong Kong. Her work can be found in the permanent collection of the Singapore Art Museum, as well as numerous other public and private collections. She is represented by FOST Gallery (Singapore) and Sapar Contemporary (NYC).
Practice:
My practice centres around my observations of the natural world and phenomena. Drawing upon geology, physics, alchemy and ecology, I investigate the potentiality of painting to discover space, light and new dimensions. I approach painting as the art of metamorphosis, often allowing unpredictability and time to drive the work. This has led to works that exist somewhere between image and form, and most recently, in the digital realm of generative art videos. Seen as an extension of my painting practice, my generative art videos is a dance between serendipity and the intentional, as I collaborate with machine learning technology to train over thousands of images of my own paintings to create a virtual universe where two realities coexist.
