Yawny is making sense of the nonsensical. Influenced by surrealism, the work is a confrontation with the absurd, and the hope of resolving existential anxieties.
Practice:
My work consists of mostly illustrations of the unknown. I try to capture the absurdity of life and how the unknown can either be a motivating source of fascination or of paralyzing terror. Although the work may depict surreal subject matter, it is deeply rooted in the real, from experiences that are human. A celebration of existence, perhaps even as encouragement to carry on despite the odds. Always a work in progress, malleable, diverging from a plan, or not even beginning with one. I like to wander and piece things together, doing my best making connections along the way, failing most of the time, hoping for the best. Isn't that all we can truly do?
